Keep Active - The Esper Way

Train the Elder

Train the Trainer

Individual Assessment and Evaluation
Sensitivity Training & Understanding the Aging Process

  • To include consideration of age-onset disease, injury, physical frailty, current physical baseline and goals.

  • You can't truly relate to an elder with arthritis until you've walked on a treadmill with pebbles in your shoes.
Unique Exercise Program Design

Communication & Encouragement with the Senior Community

  • Based on the assessment and evaluation, each elder will have a unique exercise program design. The Esper Way coordinates programs to accommodate a variety of designs.

  • Goals of the elder population are functionally driven - get out of a chair without assistance, bend over to hug a grandchild. Learn how to communicate and encourage on their level.
One-on-one Equipment Instruction
Exercise Assessment & Evaluation

  • Proper form and safe use helps the elder progress on to group classes.
  • It's not what they can't do but what they can do. As their independence decreases and their world closes in on them, evaluate with positive reinforcement and realistic goal setting, emphasizing on achievement.

Re-evaluation and Program Re-design
Mobility Adaptation & Exercise Modification

  • Periodic reviews help the client see and be stimulated by progress. Program changes keep things fresh. Progression and diversity are essential to maintain interest and fun.

  • Are your clients wheelchair bound, obese, suffering from macular degeneration, walker/cane dependent? You can design an effective program for them.
Exercise Class Instruction
“It’s More Than Just Exercise Class”

  • A variety of types and levels are essential to accommodate all abilities, goals and interest.

Walking Group Guidelines
  • Elders look for a sense of community no matter where they are. Learn how to include emotional stimulation and socialization in your program.

Exercise Program Design

  • With the Esper Way, elders will understand the benefits of walking, the appropriate shoes and where to walk. Classes will be progressive in duration and intensity and will accommodate a variety of levels of walkers over a variety of paths.

  • To accommodate a variety of abilities, your classes should include simultaneous standing and sitting workouts.
Event Planning
Equipment Recommendation

  • Meant to enhance the fitness programs, these events can include fitness contests, awards ceremonies and health fairs.
  • To include facility design, equipment design modifications and state-of-the-art equipment recommendations within budgetary guidelines.

Personal Training
Executive Office of Elderly Affairs (EOEA) Regulations

  • One-on-one training to motivate and enhance the quality of the elder's life.
  • Residents have rights - do you know them?
